A short video from the 17th European Forest Pedagogics Congress

In September, Forest of Experiments visited the European Forest Educators' Congress in Bonn, Germany, organised by the SDW (Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald), which combined the established SDW Forest Pedagogy Conference and the 17th European Forest Pedagogics Congress (the annual congress of the FCN Forest Pedagogics' Subgroup) in one event. The motto of our congress was "Learning to create together ‒ How can forest-related ESD build partnerships and empower people". A short film was produced as part of the congress, which will take you through the whole congress.

The video really captures the spirit of the congress, with outdoor learning bringing people together in such a natural way. It reminded me of how I spark engagement during my own workshops, sometimes using a random animal generator to break the ice with kids, a warrior cat name generator for fun group nicknames, and a last name generator to divide everyone into teams quickly. That Bonn congress sounds like such a good mix of forest pedagogy and real-world sharing, especially with the SDW conference folded into it. I could even see a Choicer Voicer-style format making those sessions more interactive — like quick vocal impressions of different forest sounds or teaching moments to keep people engaged.
